General Description and Goals:

Security Paraprofessional will assist teachers in providing an innovative, high-quality education program designed to meet the needs of the children in the Boston Public Schools. They will work with school staff to create an educational environment where quality and continuity are prioritized.

Reports to:

Principal/Head of schools

Responsibilities:

• Maintain the safety and security of school hallways, classrooms, common areas, and grounds.
• Assist in the arrival and dismissal of students.
• Manage PM detention hall.
• Monitor the front door and visitor pass program.
• Unlock lavatories and maintain a log of student use.
• Perform other duties as requested by the Headmaster.

Qualifications - Required:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 48 college credits or an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on ParaPro or WorkKeys assessments.
• Minimum of two years experience working with young children.
• Authorization to work in the U.S. from the first day of employment.

Qualifications - Preferred:

• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.
• Experience with adolescents and in multicultural settings.
• Fluency in one of BPS's official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean or Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.

Terms:

BTU, Paraprofessional Unit, Contractual hourly rate. Refer to the Salary section on the Career Site for details. School hours vary; some have extended days through the ELT program.
