The Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) serves approximately 37,000 students in 100+ schools. The Part-Time Security Officer performs all duties and responsibilities associated with ensuring the safety of all building staff including submitting written safety and incident reports as required by Safety and Security Management. Duties include engaging in discussions with the principal, faculty, and students to foster effective communication and promote multicultural understanding; observing and reporting any potential problems in and around the building; developing effective strategies to prevent unauthorized individuals from entering school buildings; helping safeguard individual rights and ensure the safety of school property; assisting in supervising student movement and priority areas before, during, and after school; submitting written reports regarding safety and incidents in accordance with Safety and Security Management requirements; overseeing the operation of magnetometers and X-ray machines to regulate access and identify contraband. Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, previous experience in related school or urban safety and security procedures, mature judgment, ability to relate to individuals in conflict situations, demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of persons of all ages within the school system, and must obtain OPOTC private security certification within 9 months from date of hire. The position requires physical activities such as moving, walking, standing, and occasionally lifting up to 15 pounds. Local travel may be required for training/meetings. The job is part-time and located at East Professional Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
