SUMMARY This posting is for a NON-PAID Volunteer position. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES The Child Development Volunteer performs many of the duties of a childcare teacher, including following developmentally appropriate practices and ensuring a safe and healthy environment.
- Works as part of an instructional and organizational team
- Assists in implementation of lesson plans, learning environments, and learning centers
- Assists in the preparation of materials and supplies for the classroom to include indoor and outdoor developmentally appropriate activities that follow the center policies
- Provides for the health, safety, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical needs of a class of children, gearing the program to meet the needs of individual children
- Assumes the responsibility for knowing and translating to other staff members the medical needs of children in their care
- Attends monthly staff meetings and parent functions
- Attends meetings and conferences of professional organizations appropriate for early care and education
- Assumes all responsibilities assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, or Lead Teacher to maintain efficiency of the center and well-being of the children
- Assumes responsibility for maintaining a safe unobstructed classroom and outdoor environment
- Must at all times meet the requirements of regulatory agencies
- Responds to any emergency situation as they arise.
- Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT The incumbent typically works in an early childhood classroom environment. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an early childhood classroom. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the day.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, or bend.
- Must be able to physically and mentally react immediately to unexpected circumstances. Will on occasion lift or move average weight as in lifting, carrying and holding children (10-60 lbs.) Must be able to bend, stoop, and sit on the floor with children
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - High School diploma or equivalent required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Effective communication is required with parents, students, state agencies, licensing representatives and other educational and community institutions who use the laboratory school as a resource location
- The ability to make quick and accurate judgments regarding the health and safety, emotional and physical needs of children
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Preferred knowledge in Child Development/Early Childhood and/or teaching experience with young children
