Medical Courier Driver (1099 Contractor)

Position

Rocky Mountain Laboratories is seeking one 1099 contractor for emergency courier coverage in the Saint George, Utah area. These contractors will provide essential specimen retrieval, supply delivery, and transport of medical-related materials to internal and external customers. Paid training is provided, and a company vehicle will be available during shifts.

This role requires professionalism, punctuality, clear communication, and strong technical proficiency to navigate routing software, documentation apps, and GPS systems efficiently. As a medical courier, your ability to use technology ensures accurate tracking of specimens, supports HIPAA compliance, and enhances patient care by ensuring timely specimen delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Retrieve and deliver medical specimens to designated destinations following established protocols
  • Complete supply deliveries to clients or internal locations as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and report maintenance needs for the company vehicle
  • Follow safety regulations while operating the vehicle and handling specimens
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and team members regarding pickups, deliveries, and special instructions
  • Ensure careful handling, labeling, packaging, and storage of specimens during transport
  • Provide professional customer service during pickups and deliveries
  • Load and unload specimens, supplies, and equipment safely
  • Accurately document pickups, deliveries, and activities using company-provided systems and mobile apps
  • Navigate using GPS and routing software to ensure efficient travel and timely deliveries
  • Identify and escalate issues such as delays, specimen concerns, or routing challenges
  • Assist with additional operational support as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Active smartphone (Android or iPhone) with an adequate data plan for routing and documentation apps
  • Personal liability auto insurance
  • Minimum of two years of driving experience in a delivery or courier role
  • Comfortable using GPS, routing software, and mobile documentation tools
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure specimen integrity and documentation accuracy
  • Ability to follow instructions, SOPs, and safety protocols
  • Physically able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs and operate a vehicle for extended periods
  • Flexibility to cover emergency routes and variable shift end times as needed
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to patient privacy and HIPAA compliance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous medical courier, laboratory courier, or healthcare delivery experience
  • Experience using chain-of-custody documentation
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and infection control best practices
  • Experience working in high-pressure or time-sensitive delivery environments

All positions require time zone awareness, including the impact of daylight saving time, as we are a multi-state organization with teams and partners across different U.S. time zones. Clear communication and timely coordination are essential.

Schedule:

  • Available Mondays through Saturdays, 4:30 PM until shift end (typically by 12:00 AM, with occasional extensions to 4:00 AM)
  • Guaranteed one shift every 23 Saturdays
