New Paths, Inc. is a mission-driven nonprofit providing compassionate, evidence based treatment and recovery support to individuals affected by substance use disorder, with a focus on justice-involved individuals and underserved communities. Job Summary: The Development Director will lead all fundraising and donor engagement efforts to sustain and grow the organization’s programs. This leadership role is ideal for a dynamic, strategic, and mission-aligned professional ready to build a modern and sustainable development operation from ground up. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and program staff to expand revenue through diversified fundraising streams, deepen donor relationships, and build a culture of philanthropy across the organization.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising Strategy & Execution
    1. Design and implement a comprehensive, diversified fundraising strategy including individual giving, major donors, grants, corporate sponsorships, and special events.
    2. Establish fundraising goals in collaboration with leadership and ensure progress is tracked and reported regularly.
  • Donor Cultivation and Stewardship
    1. Build and manage a donor pipeline, focusing on cultivating, soliciting, and stewardship donors at all giving levels.
    2. Create personalized stewardship plans to recognize and retain donors and demonstrate the impact of their giving.
  • Grant Writing and Contract Management
    1. Lead the development, submission, and management of grant proposals and government contracts.
    2. Track deadlines, reporting requirements, and renewal opportunities to increase annual grant revenue.
  • Donor Database and Infrastructure
    1. Identify and implement a modern donor database (CRM) to centralize fundraising data and improve donor communications and segmentation.
    2. Ensure accurate and timely data entry, gift acknowledgment, and reporting.
  • Alumni and Peer-to Peer Fundraising
    1. Launch and manage an Alumni Network to foster ongoing relationships with program graduates.
    2. Develop and support peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives led by alumni and community champions.
  • Fundraising Events & Sponsorships
    1. Plan and execute strategic fundraising events including annual galas, community fundraisers, and donor briefings.
    2. Develop sponsorship packages and secure corporate support aligned with organizational values.
  • Internal Collaboration and Staff Wellness
    1. Reduce burnout among staff involved in fundraising by streamlining processes, clarifying roles, and promoting cross team support.
    2. Cultivate a culture of philanthropy among staff and stakeholders through training, recognition, and shared storytelling.
  • Marketing and Brand Growth
    1. Oversee the development and execution of marketing strategies to elevate the organization’s brand visibility and engagement.
    2. Ensure consistent messaging across digital and print communications, including social media, newsletters, and donor materials.
    3. Collaborate with program and leadership teams to promote success stories and impact narratives.
    4. Manage external vendors or consultants supporting public relations, graphic design, or digital marketing efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record in nonprofit fundraising with 5+ years in a leadership or senior development role.
  • Experience working with undeserved or justice-involved populations strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in securing major gifts, grants, and corporate sponsorships.
  • Strong grant writing and donor communication skills.
  • Familiarity with donor CRM systems and fundraising technologies.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to execute and adapt plans effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Commitment to the mission of supporting recovery and reducing incarceration through compassionate care.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Marketing, Business Administration, Non-profit Management, Master’s degree preferred. Or Master’s degree in Social Work with leadership focus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
