The Chaplain provides patient, family and staff with focused care in accordance with St Charles Health System’s mission, values, policies, and procedures. This position will provide services for patients' spiritual, emotional, and social needs; including the use of prayer, active listening, crisis ministry, and sacramental ministry and worship experiences. Chaplains also respond to needs for referrals, support groups, and consultations. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers. Essential functions include providing a therapeutic presence, offering meaningful time, listening, caring, encouragement, hope, humor, and prayer to individuals, providing spiritual, pastoral and emotional care to patients, families and staff, participating in education of staff and public, providing pastoral support to the larger community, participating in health system professional committees, attending departmental meetings, creating intentional relationships to enhance care experience, demonstrating professional communication skills, participating in holiday rotation, assisting new employees with orientation and education, identifying and implementing service improvements, promoting goodwill and group cohesiveness, creating a healing environment, maintaining a safe environment, documenting patient care in compliance with policies, supporting the organization's vision, mission and values, supporting continuous improvement principles, conducting activities with professionalism and confidentiality, delivering customer service and patient care efficiently, and performing additional duties as assigned. Education required is a Master’s degree in Theology or equivalency and completion of 1600 hours of Clinical Pastoral Education or equivalency. Licensure requires current endorsement of sponsoring religious group and valid Oregon driver's license. Experience required is two years hospital chaplaincy or pastoral counseling experience with demonstrated proficiency. Skills include excellent communication, teamwork, organizational skills, basic to advanced computer proficiency, and ability to multi-task and work independently. Physical requirements and PPE use are specified. The position is part-time with variable shifts and days, non-exempt, and located in multiple Oregon locations within the St. Charles Health System.
